Co-curricular Programs

Performing Arts and Music

Nepean Christian School has an enviable reputation in the arts, in particular music and drama. Students have specialist music lessons from Kindergarten and are issued with a concert band instrument (e.g. trombone, clarinet etc) in Year 4. They receive a year’s free tuition in that instrument. Those who continue are invited to join the school’s concert band in Year 5. Every second year the concert band tours parts of the nation, performing to schools and the general public.

When the school band is not on tour, we run a school musical, in which students from Year 5 to 12 are invited. Musicals have included: The Wizard of Oz, Shrek, Peter Pan, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, Seussical and Honk.

Sport

For a small school we have a big sports program. We participate in regular interschool sport in teams such as soccer, basketball and netball. In addition, we send teams to a variety of gala days and selection trials. Students also have access to zone, state and national competition in swimming, athletics and cross country.

In high school we offer a broad range of leisure and recreational sports such as golf and mountain bike riding.

Duke of Edinburgh

Our school has a long tradition of connection with the Duke of Edinburgh scheme. Students can elect to begin the program in Year 9, and can elect to continue, culminating in the Gold Award by their senior years. The scheme provides opportunities for engagement in a broad variety of service, leading and physical challenges, including outdoor education and camping.
