“Experiencing the whole of school life”

Performing Arts and Music

Nepean Christian School has an enviable reputation in the arts, in particular music and drama. Students have specialist music lessons from Kindergarten and are issued with a concert band instrument (e.g. trombone, clarinet etc) in Year 4. They receive a year’s free tuition in that instrument. Those who continue are invited to join the school’s concert band in Year 5. Every second year the concert band tours parts of the nation, performing to schools and the general public.

When the school band is not on tour, we run a school musical, in which students from Year 5 to 12 are invited. Musicals have included: The Wizard of Oz, Shrek, Peter Pan, Into the Woods, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, Seussical and Honk.

Sport

For a small school we have a big sports program. We participate in regular interschool sport in teams such as soccer, basketball and netball. In addition, we send teams to a variety of gala days and selection trials. Students also have access to zone, state and national competition in swimming, athletics and cross country.

In high school we offer a broad range of leisure and recreational sports such as golf and mountain bike riding.

The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award

Nepean Christian School is proud to offer The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, providing our students with the opportunity for self-discovery, personal growth, and exposure to experiences outside the classroom. This rewarding challenge equips, engages, and empowers students to explore their potential and develop new skills.

Students become eligible to participate in The Award when they enter Year 9 or are over the age of 14. The Award is a global framework for non-formal education and learning, challenging young people to dream big, celebrate their achievements, and make a difference in their world. By developing universal and transferable skills, increasing fitness levels, cultivating a sense of adventure, and volunteering in their community, the Award inspires young people to take control, make their own choices, and build unique programs centered on their interests and passions.

Our supportive culture ensures that students are encouraged, affirmed, and celebrated in their achievements, fostering an environment where they can thrive. The Award is not a competition but rather a personal challenge, allowing students to work collaboratively while focusing on their individual abilities.

Participation is entirely voluntary and is structured to provide each participant with a tailored journey of discovery and accomplishment. The Award has a global presence, with over one million young people participating annually in more than 140 countries and territories. Since its launch nearly 60 years ago, it has inspired over eight million young people to transform their lives, offering consistent international recognition and accreditation of their experiences.

The program consists of three levels—Bronze, Silver, and Gold—each progressively more challenging than the last. To complete each level, participants must engage in four sections: Service, Skill, Physical Recreation, and Adventurous Journey. Gold level participants are also required to complete a residential project, further enriching their experience and personal development.

Lunch time clubs

Every day exciting things happen around the school. Our library (The Hive) has movie days, craft and Lego. There are also clubs for chess, debating, dance, creative writing, SRC, Bible Studies and so much more.

The Hive

The Hive is the heart of the school. Not only is it the place for many of our co-curricular clubs, but it has one of the best collections of children’s and young adult fiction. The library is open before and after school, as well as lunch. It’s definitely the place to be.
